Overview

Andvari the Golden Fish is a video slot Microgaming released on 16 July 2025. The catalogue tags its theme as Animals and Ocean, and the format field reads 5 reels · 40 Lines. Because both the reel count and the line count are recorded, you know before opening it that wins are settled along fixed lines.

Three values are published: an RTP of 96.24%, a Medium-high volatility grade and the release date. Max win and bet range are blank. This review reads those three values against other Microgaming titles in the same format and leaves the blanks as blanks rather than patching them with figures from elsewhere.

Layout and rules

Five reels and 40 lines is not an unusual layout here. Eight of Microgaming's 142 titles use it, and five of those eight carry 'Power Combo' in their English names. Andvari is one of the three that don't.

How the lines run, whether there are wilds or a bonus round, and what each symbol pays are not in the catalogue. The cover shows gold coins and a chest of gems, but artwork alone can't tell you what role either plays in the game. The in-game help screen is where the rules live.

The bet range is unpublished too. Of the eight 40-line titles, only Luck of the Devil: POWER COMBO lists one (0.20 to 20), so a blank is actually the norm for this format. This review does not borrow a neighbour's range to fill it.

Among the eight 40-line titles

Published RTPs across the eight run from 96.07% (Money Dragon) to 96.49% (3 Blazing Volcanoes Power Combo), a spread of just 0.42 points. Andvari's 96.24% comes third, behind 3 Blazing Volcanoes and 3 Angels Power Combo at 96.40%. Gaps this narrow are better read as one cluster than as a ranking.

Volatility is far more scattered. Three are Medium (3 Blazing Volcanoes, Money Dragon, Gates of Asgard), two are Medium-high (Andvari and Bears Make Bank!), two are High (Luck of the Devil and 3 Angels) and one is Very high (Queens of Ra). The same line count clearly didn't dictate how widely results spread, which is also why the format field can't stand in for a volatility grade.

Medium-high is an uncommon grade for this studio in the first place. Six of the 142 titles carry it, and two of them sit in this 40-line group. The other one, Bears Make Bank! Power Combo, followed about four weeks later on 13 August 2025 with an RTP of 96.15%.

Reading the numbers

Widening the view to the whole studio: the 90 Microgaming slots that publish an RTP have a median of 96.12%. Andvari's 96.24% sits 0.12 points above that, with 20 of the 90 higher. Three other titles, Almighty Athena Empire among them, publish exactly the same 96.24%.

The figure describes where returns converge over an enormous number of spins. It isn't the kind of number a few dozen spins can confirm or contradict.

Max win is not published. The cover art carries a large '5000X' in its lettering, yet the catalogue's max-win field is empty. This site treats only spec-sheet values as figures, so the number in the artwork is not transcribed as a published cap; if you need it confirmed, the in-game information screen is the place to look.

Presentation

At the centre of the cover an old man with a white beard and a red cap sits in a small boat heaped with wide-eyed golden fish. Coins scatter across the upper left, and a chest of gems sits in the bottom-left corner. Bubbles and blue water fill the background, so the Animals and Ocean tags read straight off the picture.

The composition leans on repetition: near-identical fish stacked on top of each other to suggest abundance. The title uses yellow lettering with a dark outline to lift it off the water tones. A demo is available, so you can see how the 40 lines are drawn on screen and how the information panel handles the cap the spec sheet leaves blank.

Strengths

  • Published RTP and volatility make it easy to set against other 40-line titles
  • Its Medium-high grade is rare for the studio, which makes it a useful reference point
  • The demo shows the line layout and rules directly

Weak points

  • Max win is not published
  • Bet range is not published
  • The '5000X' on the cover isn't backed by the spec sheet

Verdict

Andvari the Golden Fish's published figures put it mid-pack on RTP within the 40-line group and in the studio's uncommon Medium-high grade. The gap between the number on the cover and the empty spec field is best settled in the demo's information screen.
